CONSTITUTION OF
THE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AND HUMAN ECOLOGY
DIVERSITY AND EMPOWERMENT
STUDENT ORGANIZATION
Article I. Name
The name of this organization is The College of Education and Human Ecology Diversity and Empowerment Student Organization, hereafter referred to as the Organization.
Article II. Object
The Organization is to assist future/current educators in building a collaborative community of learners that address academic, social, and community related issues. It aims to empower students in the College of Education and Human Ecology by creating a forum where students can advocate for change that strengthens scholastic endeavors and enhances diversity.
Article III. Membership and Dues
Section 1
All students in College of Education and Human Ecology are eligible for members in the Organization. Those who are not in the College but take courses in College of Education at the Ohio State University are granted associate membership in the Organization. Associate members may not hold office or vote on matters of the Organization.
Section 2
The Organization and its members shall not discriminate against any individual(s) for reasons of race, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, nationality, ethnicity, or veteran status.
Article IV. Officers
Section 1
The officers of the Organization shall consist of President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, all of whom must be students in College of Education and be elected or nominated by the members at an annual membership meeting.
Section 2
Officers will be elected or nominated for one one-year term and serve until their successors have been elected or nominated. The maximum time that a particular person may hold the same office is limited to two consecutive full one-year terms plus any fraction of an unexpired one-year term.
Article V. Duties of Officers
Section 1
President: The President shall preside at all meetings of the Organization and shall be Chair of the Executive Board.
Section 2
First Vice President: In the absence or disability of the President, or at the request of the President, the First Vice President shall perform the duties of the President. If the office of President becomes vacant, the First Vice President shall become President for the remainder of the unexpired term. The First Vice President shall be a member of the Executive Board.
Section 3
Second Vice President: In the absence or disability of the First Vice President, or at the request of the First Vice President, the Second Vice President shall perform the duties of the First Vice President. If the office of the President becomes vacant and the First Vice President is unable to act, the Second Vice President shall become President. The Second Vice President shall be a member of the Executive Board.
Section 4
Secretary: The Secretary shall send out all notices of meetings and shall send reports of all meetings and activities of the Organization. The Secretary shall assist the President.
The Secretary shall keep the collection of the opinion notes from all members including associate members. The Secretary shall not release any of the members’ opinion notes for political or commercial purposes, subject to expulsion from office. Release of the opinion notes shall be made only on approval of the Executive Board. The Secretary shall be a member of the Executive Board.
Section 5
Treasurer: The Treasurer shall supervise all receipts and expenditures and shall be in charge of handling financial arrangements for the meetings. The Treasurer shall complete all financial reports and send them to the Executive Board. The Treasurer shall be a member of the Executive Board.
Article VI. Executive Board
Section 1
The Executive Board of the Organization shall consist of the Officers as outlined in Article V.
Section 2
The Executive Board shall have full power to fill all vacancies.
Section 3
The government of the Organization and the direction of its activities shall be discussed in the Executive Board.
Section 4
A meeting of the Executive Board must be called by the President of the Organization on written request of at least three members of the Executive Board.
Section 5
The Executive Board shall hold three meetings a year and others at the discretion of the President.
Article VII. Membership Meetings
Section 1
At least one membership meeting will be held each year.
Section 2
There shall be such other meetings a year as the President, with the approval of the Executive Board of the Organization, deems desirable.
Article IX. Elections
Members of the Executive Board shall be elected each year at the annual membership meeting and shall hold office until their successors have been elected or nominated.
Article X. Bylaws
The Organization is permitted to establish bylaws at any regular executive board meeting of the Organization. No amendment or addition to the bylaws can be made that is not in harmony with the Organization’s Constitution.
Article XI. Adoption
This constitution shall be officially adopted upon its approval by a majority vote of the members of the Organization in attendance at any regular or special meeting of the Organization.
Article XII. Amendments
This constitution may be amended by a majority vote of all members present at any duly called meeting of the membership of the Organization.
